EAST VS. WEST

Yoshiaki Asai, Ninko Ouzou, Hisao Sakai Savako AND Blaine Fontana, Charles Glaubitz,

Joshua Krause, Tim McCormick and Jason Sherry.

CURATED BY D. DOMINICK LOMBARDI

PRESENTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH: LUNARBASE GALLERY, BROOKLYN, NY.

OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 630-9PM

For this exhibition, Japanese artists Yoshiaki Asai, Ninko Ouzou, Hisao

Sakai and Savako are paired with West Coast artists Blaine Fontana,

Charles Glaubitz, Joshua Krause, Tim McCormick and Jason Sherry.

This grouping, which pairs the art produced in the somewhat dissimilar

cultures of Tokyo, Japan and San Diego, CA, will reveal some distinct

commonalities such as the creation of imaginary characters or worlds,

the use of dark humor and shallow field perspective, and a narrative

approach filtered through a rather disturbing sense of innocence. What

is most important in these works here, is a sense of anxiousness manifested as escapism, as

the emotional content in these works is a very critical sign of the times.

THE TIMES SQUARE PROJECT

tom christopher

OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 630-9PM

Saturated with deep color and intense black lines, Tom Christopher's

Small edition serigraphs open a window onto a modern urban city. The

narrative thread that runs through these prints concludes, and quite

by a printers accident, a set of unique prints that place the city back into

a pre-Dutch colonization marshland.
