Based on intuition and emotion, and often coming directly from her imagination, Elrod tends to include herself as a subject in her work, and yet she shies away from considering them self-portraits. Her aim is to reveal and document specific emotional issues, looking to translate feelings into accessible visual imagery. The result is a body of work where the objects and subjects seem familiar, but the context of those, morph and reflect a strange, playful, calm, seductive and sometimes even eerie world.
